Barkcination

In 2024, the UK lost its status as a measles-free country, and confidence in the MMR vaccine fell to a 15-year low. Yet, around 8 million Britons vaccinate their dogs every year. But when it comes to their own vaccinations, many begin to have doubts.

Problem

The problem: people are tired of being lectured, distrust official health communications, and frequently encounter vaccine misinformation. Direct discussions about vaccination trigger resistance, particularly among audiences skeptical of institutions. The objective: to create a campaign or experience that fosters belief in vaccines through a relatable emotional insight.

Solution

Barkcination is a campaign that turns dogs into the voice of common sense. Instead of speaking to people directly about vaccination, we let their pets ask the question: if you care so much about protecting me, why not protect yourself too? We launched scented outdoor ads designed to attract dogs leading their owners to a message about vaccination. In pet stores and dog-friendly cafés, we installed treat dispensers printed with common vaccine myths. Dogs literally ate and destroyed the misinformation. We also integrated the campaign into dog-walking apps, allowing users to build a route to the nearest vaccination center.

Results

The campaign takes the conversation about vaccination beyond the confines of routine medical communication and brings it into the everyday lives of dog owners. Barkcination helps bypass skepticism toward standard health messaging, playfully dispels myths about vaccines, and turns caring for a pet into a reminder to care for oneself.
